Being an expert in a company does not always equate to having the ability to share knowledge with other employees. The process of knowledge transfer requires employees to master public speaking skills. Various challenges faced PT Tower Bersama Infrastructure, Tbk (TBIG) in encouraging Subject Matter Experts (SME)—professionals who specialize in specific areas, both technical and non-technical—to impart their expertise to others through training. One of Tower Bersama Group’s strategies is to encourage SMEs to participate in the Training for Trainers program.
Maxima Impact Consulting designed the Training for Trainers program to develop the skills, knowledge, and attitudes necessary to become effective trainers. Participants were guided to discover their “strong why” in every decision they make, including their decision to become a trainer.
From February 28 to March 1, 2024, Training for Trainers was held in Bogor City, with 25 SME employees from TBIG. Before the event, participants filled out an assessment to analyze their needs and knowledge before receiving the material. This is one of Maxima’s focuses in delivering training, ensuring that each step and strategy is chosen based on a needs analysis.
The Training for Trainers was conducted using experiential learning techniques and role play, an approach that encourages participants to apply the knowledge they have learned through real-world case studies. Throughout the event, participants were guided on how to design learning processes and deliver effective presentations to their audience. The material was delivered directly by experts, including Ivan Ahda, CEO of Maxima Impact Agency, and Andra Donatta, Professional Trainer at Kubik Leadership.
An interesting story emerged from participants who found the training process difficult and intimidating. “The participants’ concerns about facing challenges during the training are valid, in my opinion. We understand that most of them had no prior experience as trainers. With the presence of facilitators, the learning process for each participant was closely monitored,” explained Zalfa Luqyana, Project Manager of Training for Trainers.
In addition to strengthening personal skills, Maxima also encouraged Training for Trainers participants to work effectively in groups. This aimed to produce trainers who not only have the ability to impart knowledge but also understand others’ perspectives and collaborate effectively through group dynamics during the training.
“I gained really valuable knowledge. The structure of the material was well-organized. After participating in Training for Trainers, I not only increased my knowledge but also boosted my confidence and skills to become a trainer,” expressed one of the participants of Training for Trainers.
