How does Maxima Implement the ABC Framework in Impact Management?

The presence of a variety of increasingly complex world challenges, encourages organizational awareness of the importance of managing the impact of impact management initiatives and programs. As a consultant concerned with creating impact, Maxima Impact Consulting is present as a strategic partner that facilitates the transformation of leaders, organizations, to communities and society through impact-oriented initiatives that are aligned with sustainable development goals.

Through this awareness and the need to navigate impact that is also aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), the SDGs Impact Standard can be one of the practice guidelines for organizations that want to positively contribute to creating organizational impact value and contribute to sustainable development. This standard does not only focus on reporting standards or matrix, but improving internal management and decision-making processes.

The SDGs Impact Standard uses the SDGs and norms from the Impact Management Project (IMP) initiative as a standard for understanding, managing and communicating impact that incorporates the United Nations Guiding Principles for Business and Human Rights and The Ten Principles of the United Nations Global Compact to emphasize the importance of human rights and responsible business practices.

So, what framework can be implemented in identifying and managing impact?

Based on the SDGs Impact Standard, one of the key principles that can be adopted is the ABC Goals. The ABC Goals framework provides a comprehensive approach to assessing the overall impact of an organization or activity that includes human (social) and environmental impacts. The framework classifies impacts into three main categories namely:

• A – Acting to Avoid Harm: Identifying and minimizing negative risks to the organization, society and the environment.
• B – Benefiting Stakeholders: Ensuring that the organization’s activities provide tangible benefits to all stakeholders.
• C – Contributing to Solutions: Actively contributing to finding and implementing solutions to pressing global challenges.

Maxima takes an important role in facilitating leaders and organizations to manage and measure the impact of organizational initiatives based on the three ABC Frameworks. Three organizational activities that Maxima facilitated related to measuring and managing impact based on each of the ABC Goals are as follows:

• Social Mapping of BUMA’s Rim of Mine Community in Berau Regency

In 2018, Maxima has facilitated PT BUKIT MAKMUR MANDIRI UTAMA INDONESIA Tbk (BUMA) in the process ofsocial mapping to 509 residents in Berau Regency located in 12 villages around the company’s mine for 5 months. This social mapping is a strategic step aimed at mapping the physical and social conditions of the community, as well as evaluating the availability of a prioritized matrix of community problems, needs, and potentials in the mining area.

One of the key principles adopted in this social mapping activity is “Acting to Avoid Harm”. This principle emphasizes the importance of identification and mitigation of impacts that may arise from mining activities to the surrounding communities. Through social mapping, BUMA is committed to deeply understand the condition and social dynamics of the community, so that it can take proactive actions in avoiding potential hazards and can optimize the empowerment of the community around the mine itself.

• Capacity Building for Lecturers through Inspiring Lecturer Program with ParagonCorp

In an effort to support the improvement of the quality of higher education in Indonesia, ParagonCorp facilitated by Maxima has implemented a Lecturer Capacity Building program through the “Inspiring Lecturer” initiative. This program is designed to make lecturers as agents of change who advocate the values of Merdeka Belajar. In one batch, the program was implemented for three months online, involving lecturers from various universities throughout Indonesia.

One of the main principles in determining impact adopted in this program is benefiting stakeholders. This principle emphasizes the importance of creating value and benefits for all stakeholders involved, including lecturers, students, educational institutions, and the wider community. The program has had approximately 1,700 lecturers as direct beneficiaries and 8,679 indirect beneficiaries involved and benefiting from the action projects in the program.

• End-to-end Management of BSI Scholarship Program for Students with BSI Maslahat

BSI Maslahat launched the BSI Scholarship program supported by PT Bank Syariah Indonesia Tbk. to produce future leaders, especially in the Islamic finance industry. Through this program, BSI Maslahat wants to achieve the impact goal of “contributing to solutions ” with a focus on developing student capacity not only in academic aspects but also in soft skills in facing the challenges of higher education and the world of Islamic finance industry itself.

BSI Maslahat collaborates with Maxima Impact Consulting to ensure the process is measurable to achieve the expected impact. Until now, the program has been running for 3 batches from 2021-2024 which are divided into the BSI Scholarship Prestasi and BSI Scholarship Inspirasi programs. The program has facilitated around 4,116 students from more than 90 public and private universities. In addition to scholarships in the form of education funds, participants also receive coaching related to soft skills and hard skillsfor two years, as well as job opportunities after graduation, especially in the field of Islamic finance industry. With this program, BSI Maslahat is committed to creating a positive and sustainable impact on education and employment in Indonesia.

Various programs are always wrapped to provide impact, not only for the organizers but also the program participants (beneficiaries).
